BAKU, Azerbaijan – April 22, 2026 – In a significant stride towards digital economic diversification, Azerbaijani women are increasingly leading the charge in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions within the country's vibrant Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) landscape. This trend is not merely about technological adoption; it represents a powerful confluence of national development goals and the burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit of Azerbaijani women.

According to the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, over 40% of new AI-driven business initiatives in the past year were founded or co-founded by women, particularly in sectors like e-commerce, digital marketing, and personalized services. “Our data clearly indicates that Azerbaijani women are not just consumers of technology, but active architects of its future,” states Dr. Leyla Aliyeva, Head of the Digital Economy Department at the Ministry. “Their pragmatic approach to AI, focusing on tangible business outcomes, is a key driver for our national digital transformation strategy, particularly within the 'Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities' framework.”

One such pioneer is Gulnara Mammadova, CEO of 'Anar Tech Solutions,' a Baku-based startup specializing in AI-powered customer relationship management (CRM) for local businesses. “For too long, our SMEs, especially those run by women in traditional crafts or services, faced barriers in scaling due to manual processes,” Mammadova explains. “AI offers an unprecedented opportunity to automate, personalize, and expand. We're seeing women-led businesses, from carpet weaving cooperatives in Quba to boutique fashion houses in Baku, utilize our AI tools to analyze market trends, optimize inventory, and engage with global customers more effectively.”

The Azerbaijan Women Entrepreneurs Association (AWEA) has been instrumental in fostering this environment. AWEA, in collaboration with the Agency for Innovation and Digital Development (AIR), recently launched a series of 'AI for Business Growth' workshops specifically tailored for female entrepreneurs. “These programs are designed to demystify AI and provide practical, actionable strategies,” says Sevinj Karimova, President of AWEA. “We emphasize how AI can address specific challenges faced by women in business, such as balancing family responsibilities with business demands through automation, or accessing new markets without extensive travel.”

Experts believe this female-led AI adoption is creating a unique competitive advantage for Azerbaijan. “The inherent resilience and innovative thinking characteristic of Azerbaijani women, honed through generations of navigating complex socio-economic landscapes, makes them exceptionally adept at identifying and implementing disruptive technologies like AI,” observes Professor Elnara Huseynova from ADA University’s School of Business. “Their focus on community and practical solutions ensures that AI integration is not just about profit, but also about creating sustainable, inclusive growth that benefits wider society.”

As Azerbaijan continues its journey towards becoming a regional digital hub, the role of women in driving AI innovation within the SME sector is proving to be an indispensable asset, promising a future where technology and tradition converge to empower a new generation of Azerbaijani business leaders.
